Uses
Other comments :
Rum Ether has the liquorous note of Brown Rum Absolute.
Stability :
Olfactively very unstable
Uses in perfumery :
Rum Ether gives a very characteristic rising effect that boosts the top note. Used in fruity accords and notes of liquors.
Year of discovery :
Data not available.
Isomerism :
N/A
Synthesis precursor :
Rum Ether is not a precursor to the synthesis of another compound of olfactory interest.
Natural availability :
Rum Ether is a natural product derivative, but is obtained thanks to organic synthesis.
Synthesis route :
Rum Ether refers to all ethyl esters of pyroligneous acid. Pyroligneous acid is the crude condensate obtained as a result of a wood (often leafy) pyrolysis. This mixture consists mainly of water, but also contains acetic acid, acetone and methanol for the most part. The presence of ethanol in this mixture and a strong acid in trace amounts such as sulfuric acid, enables this esterification. The resulting product is Rum Ether.
