Synthesis route :
Cardamom Aldehyde, like other aliphatic aldehydes, can be produced through the reaction of 4-decylenyl halides (e.g. chloride) with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), followed by a basic treatment with sodium bicarbonate. The reactant used is the cis (Z) diastereoisomer of the halide used. Other synthesis methods exist, such as Rosenmund reduction from 4-decylenic acid, using an acid chloride.
